The Laroche-Ploquin domain, in the heart of the Loire Valley
This exceptional property in the heart of the cradle of French history was originally built in the 15th century on the foundations of an ancient 13th century fortress. It consists of a majestic castle overlooking a wooded park of 72,240 sq.m and was completely renovated and inaugurated in 2017 as a luxurious 4-star hotel and a semi gastronomic restaurant.
A castle rooted in history
Built in the 15th century on the foundations of a fortress, the Château de Laroche Ploquin has belonged to several great families over the centuries - the tower of the castle bears the arms of one of the owner families in the 16th century - the du Puy family.
During the 20th century, the castle made history thanks to its owner, Countess Marie-Thérèse de Poix. Indeed, during the Second World War, the Countess used her property as a hub to supply weapons and hide men for the resistance network to which she belonged.
A typical architecture of the banks of the Loire
The treatment of the facade is typical of the buildings of the first quarter of the sixteenth century by its blésois quadrillage, a form of molding whose name comes from the wing built under Francis I of the castle of Blois, and on the other hand, by its typical capitals of the years 1515-1520 that are also found in the architectures of the castle of Blois and Azay-le-Rideau.
The entrance door, in the same way as that of the castle of Azay-le-Rideau, resembles Roman triumphal arches and sets the architectural tone for the entire building.
A fully renovated renaissance castle
The semi-gastronomic restaurant, was built in 2016 in the extension of the castle under a magnificent veranda overlooking the park. It was in 2017 that the 4-star hotel was inaugurated. French history and traditional luxury are combined to make you live a castle life, in the heart of the only region of France classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO as "an object representing the genius of human creativity".
The castle has 20 rooms in the castle and 3 rooms in the countess' pavilions, decorated and furnished in the spirit of Louis XV or Louis XVI. Each displays a unique decoration and details highlighted by the refinement of the stretched fabrics that come in different harmonies depending on the room.
Journey to the time of Queens and Kings
The entrance to the estate is through a majestic gate framed by lanterns, in the forest, and we are welcomed by the old house of the gamekeeper. On the banks of La Manse and within 7 hectares, the Laroche-Ploquin castle dominates with its imposing silhouette the panorama as vast as varied of the domain where forest, rose garden-labyrinth and creeks meet.
Inside the castle, the impressive wooden staircase offers a striking and vertiginous perspective, the stone staircase marvels by its moldings and its sculpted vaults, the common parts invite to a time that one would like to suspend, while the vast rooms and suites invite to the reverie and the amazement.
The castle has 1,307 m2 of living space, with :
- 23 rooms carefully decorated with taste in a period style
- An outbuilding with 6 additional rooms
- A Restaurant
- A Bar & Lounge
- Several reception rooms
- Swimming pool and sauna
- Sports room
The ambition of the rooms is to respect the codes of classic French interiors, while offering a unique universe in each one. They are furnished with refined and comfortable period furniture. Spacious and modern, the bathrooms are equipped with top-of-the-line equipment from the Villeroy & Boch luxury collection. The decoration and the covering of the walls and the floor use natural and prestigious materials: Carrara marble, schist, travertine, solid wood... Each room displays its singularity in the respect of the style of the time and the tone of the castle.
This luxurious French castle offers high standing services with its historical cachet, its immense spaces and ceiling heights, its 7 hectares park planted with trees in the calm of the Touraine countryside, and the possibilities of expansion with potential infrastructures such as a spa and a tennis court.
The typical sports of the region are honored at the castle. Indeed, fishermen will appreciate the lake of the park, hunters will be able to use the adjoining hunting domain while horsemen will appreciate the stables and the resting ground of the domain and the paths crossing the property.
In the heart of history in the Loire Valley, 20 minutes from Tours and 2h45 from the center of Paris, this exceptional property is offered by Côte d'Azur Sotheby's International Realty.
