Summer Olympics in France
EVENT
Cannes, Nice, Antibes: these iconic cities of the French Riviera have the privilege of hosting the Olympic flame
France and the Summer Olympics share a long history built on significant moments. Since hosting the 1900 Games in Paris, France has welcomed this event three times, contributing to its evolution. In 2024, it's Paris's turn again to host the Olympic Games. This edition is already shaping up to be an exceptional event, characterized by extraordinariness, inclusion, and sustainability. Hosting these Games represents a fantastic opportunity for France to showcase its strengths and expertise, both in sports, culture, and economy. The expected benefits are substantial in terms of employment, infrastructure, and tourism promotion.
The journey of the Olympic Flame: symbol of unity, peace, and hope
The passage of the Olympic flame is more than just a sporting relay. It's a highly anticipated event that symbolizes values of unity, peace, and hope worldwide. Since 1936, the Olympic flame has traveled a long journey through the host country before being lit in the Olympic cauldron during the opening ceremony. This journey helps share the Olympic spirit with a broader audience and celebrates the values of sport.

The Olympic Flame on the French Riviera
The route of the Flame on the French Riviera and celebrations
The Olympic flame is set to ignite the French Riviera during its journey through France from May 8 to June 26, 2024. Our Marseille colleagues from Marseille Sotheby’s Realty will welcome the flame on May 8, and on June 18, it will illuminate the spectacular landscapes and iconic cities of the Alpes-Maritimes, promising an unforgettable day rich in emotions and discoveries.
The route of the Olympic flame will start in Villefranche-sur-Mer, head towards Grasse, the perfume capital of the world. Then, it will move on to Cannes, where it will light up the iconic steps of the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. After that, the flame will travel to Valberg, before heading to Antibes - Juan-les-Pins, a city twinned with Olympia. The rest of the route will continue to Valdeblore - La Colmiane, a ski resort located at the gates of the Mercantour National Park.
The day will conclude with festivities in Nice: follow this event and find all the details on the link HERE.
Nice will be one of the key cities on the route on June 18, 2024. A celebration site will be set up in the city center to allow the people of Nice to enjoy this grand festival, with sports activities linked to local clubs and the presence of prominent Niçois champions.
Among the incredible attractions planned: ziplining in La Colmiane, snorkeling in Villefranche-sur-Mer, virtual reality sailing race, climbing, breakdance performances by local youth, or even a military obstacle course!
Our torchbearers
During this day on the French Riviera, the Olympic flame will be passed between the hands of Alice Modolo, vice-world champion in freediving, who will have the honor of being the first to hold it, followed by Julia Pereira de Sousa-Mabileau, Olympic silver medalist in snowboard cross at the 2018 Winter Games. Then, the flame will be passed to Loïc Pietri, Judo world champion in 2013 and originally from La Colmiane, then to Jacques Chibois, Michelin-starred chef in Grasse, Alexandre Farrugia, president of the Le Cannet wheelchair basketball team and former Paralympic athlete. Finally, the Olympic flame will be carried by Sébastien Camus, ultratrail champion, a key figure in this discipline in France. Licensed or originating from the region, these six inspiring figures will live a unique experience during this Olympic torch relay!
Impacts on the region and its attractiveness
The passage of the Olympic Flame promises to have a positive impact on several fronts for the region. Economically, it will boost tourism, generating beneficial economic effects. Additionally, it will enhance the global reputation of the French Riviera as a high-end tourist destination. Culturally, this event will showcase the region's cultural richness and heritage, fostering international recognition. The positive effects will persist beyond June 18, 2024, with the global broadcast of images of the Olympic Flame's passage increasing the region's visibility and sparking the interest of travelers from around the world to discover the magic of the French Riviera.
