Sotheby's Auction: Collection of François and Betty Catroux
The luxury auction house Sotheby's unveils the collection of François and Betty Catroux, from their apartment in the Palais Maeterlinck, marketed and sold by Côte d'Azur Sotheby's International Realty.
This luxury apartment, within an equally prestigious residence, symbolizes François Catroux’ last creation (1936-2020) and exhibits contemporary works from the 20th and 21st centuries, pieces from Asia and Africa, as well as some of his own creations.
A legendary couple, Betty became Yves Saint Laurent's muse in the 1970s - his "feminine double" , and François was a world-renowned interior designer for Marie-Hélène and Guy de Rothschild, Roman Abramovich, and so many others who will audaciously and aesthetically mix the old and the contemporary, thus creating his unique, elegant and original universe.
His apartment in the Palais Maeterlinck - his latest achievement - reflects his taste for design, light effects, antique objects and contemporary furniture. Facing the sea, this apartment is a true heritage of the decorator which reveals major works by contemporary designers, as well as older pieces.
An exceptional auction, by Sotheby's.
