Saint Tropez - Beaches Ramatuelle
At the foot of the Massif des Maures, captured between the sky and sea, Saint Tropez and the iconic beaches of Ramatuelle covers a vast coastline.
From the citadel of the 16th century to the early twentieth century fishing village, international and mythical tourist capital, St Tropez has really contributed to the fame of the French Riviera.
The plane trees in the Place des Lices have sheltered many animated petanque games between stars of show business (Eddie Barclay and his band) and local 'stars', and beaches - Bouillabaisse, Caneliers, Salins, Pampelonne – give St. Tropez it’s reputation, becoming 'St Trop' in 1950, while Parisian intellectuals and artists, such as Picasso, Colette, Françoise Sangan and Prevert, went down there for the summer.
The myth was accentuated with the arrival of Brigitte Bardot in the 60s, and since then, St Tropez became one of the favorite places of all Parisian socialites and international Jet Set.
But Saint-Tropez, is above all a village without crowds, will express itself with its small charming alleys and warmly tinted flowers. Early in the morning, the place aux Herbes offers vegetables, fruits and flowers next to the marina where a few remaining fishermen sell their fish on the market, near the famous brewery "Gorilla" and "Sénéquier".
Saint-Tropez is also art: the village has played a major role in the history of Modern Art. Paul Signac discovered this place bathed in light and encouraged painters such as Matisse, Bonnard and Marquet to come to St. Tropez. This is where Pointillism and Fauvism first saw the light of day. Later, Saint-Tropez hosted Bernard Buffet, David Hockney, Donald Sultan.
Its coastline, including the cap Saint Pierre, Cap Pinet and long Pampelonne Beach in Ramatuelle, remain the favorite places for majestic homes, real ‘waterfront’ for some properties, gorgeous parks landscaped in a unique environment and preserved. The most popular and most exclusive areas - Les Parcs de Saint Tropez, the Parc des Salins, the Capon neighborhood, Domaine du Cap Tahiti or Capila, Domaine de l'Escalet - hides prestigious upper class properties, from the Provencal house to the architectural ultra
contemporary house.
The beaches of Ramatuelle
The beaches of Ramatuelle, are lined with countless vineyards and unwind along the coastline of this majestic place, with great views.
Built on the hillside facing the Bay of Pampelonne, Ramatuelle is a charming Provençal village, roofs made of pink tiles, stone houses with period doors and windows, and narrow streets.
Surrounded by ramparts, the places enjoy an exceptional view of the Mediterranean, and a close proximity to numerous coves and a rich seabed.
Pampelonne beach, frequented by the jet set, has become one of the most famous in the world. The origin of this myth, the "Tahiti Beach" (1946) and the "Club 55" (1955) - former 'canteen' for the film crew of "And God Created Woman" with Brigitte Bardot, since becoming an ultra renowned restaurant.
The beach facilities have seen for the past half century, all the celebrities of showbiz: Errol Flyn around 1950, Brigitte Bardot, Roger Vadim, Jane Fonda in the 60s, Michèle Morgan and Gilbert Becaud around 1970, Sylvester Stallone, Claudia Schiffer, Elton John and Johnny Hallyday then, and today a certain Paris Hilton or Tony Parker...
